Bridging Second Life to Real Live

RLVibe-enabled Sybian |
What is RLVibe?
RLVibe is my project to link a USB-controlled real life vibrator to furniture and wearable attachments within Second Life. By using an RLVibe-enabled product, players can "feel" when another avatar adjusts the controls. RLVibe is indented to work with both Men and Women, regardless of whether RL and SL genders are the same. No personal information is collected or shared (see Privacy below).Where can I get it?
The sybian is currently available for sale for L$500 on the Marketplace as well as at my shop. A demo version is there so you may try it before you buy. I'm currently updating it to support more animations and improve the menu for connecting to RLVibe.
Additional toys are also available. There is a vibrator and a set of ben-wa balls. Both will be updated soon based on feedback I've gotten from customers.
Developers, see the end of this page.

At a minimum, to use RLVibe you will need to have a USB controller and a toy that is compatible with it. You can buy one of these at Harnett Technologies.
You will also need a vibrator of some sort. Look closely at this one. You can click on the picture to make it bigger. Notice the little phone jack plug? That's what plugs into the USB controller. Any toy that has this sort of plug will work with this controller. This is the one I bought for testing. And I have to say, I've never enjoyed doing Quality Assurance so much!
Women have a lot of choices for toys. This thong looks like a lot of fun. If you go out to any adult site, you can find pages and pages of vibrating toys for women.

Installation
The RLVibe client that runs on your home computer is written in Java. Java 1.6 or later is required. I always recommend using the latest version (which is 1.7.0_51 at the time of this writing), but as long as you're getting at least Java 1.6, this will work fine.
Windows (tested on Win7)
Java
Download Java 1.6 or later from here. Be sure you get the 32-bit version of Java. The USB drivers don't appear to work with the 64-bit version of Java.
RLVibe Client
After you've installed the 32-bit version of Java, you can download RLVibe-1.02 and double-click on the installer. Please see my Windows Installation Guide.
Windows 8 and 8.1 Users -- I have not personally managed to get this running on Win8 or 8.1. I have been told that you must temporarily turn off the check for signed device drivers. I found a couple of YouTube videos that show how to do this.
Windows 10 Users -- I haven't tried this yet. I just received my demo copy of Win10 and will be testing it as soon as I can.
I've been told that some people are having trouble with the USB driver not recognizing the controller. One conflict I've found is when "Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller" is installed, some USB devices fail to be recognized. Uninstalling this, then rebooting, tends to resolve this.
Mac (OSX 10.8+)
Java
You can download Java 1.6 from Apple.
Or you can download Java 1.7 from Oracle.
Q: When I try to run the RLVibe.app, it says that the file is corrupted and should be deleted.
A: Gatekeeper is complaining. I first ran into this with Mavericks. You'll need to turn Gatekeeper off, start RLVibe, then you should turn it back on again. From then on, RLVibe should work without any problems. Here's Apple's support page on Gatekeeper: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5290
Or you can download Java 1.7 from Oracle.
RLVibe Client
Download and double-click this RLVibe-1.03.dmg file. Drag it into Applications for all users, or onto your desktop for private use. Double-click the RLVibe to start the app.Q: When I try to run the RLVibe.app, it says that the file is corrupted and should be deleted.

Linux
USB Drivers
Linux is not yet supported. It should work, however, if you install libusb-1.0 from http://www.libusb.org. You may have to change permissions on a /dev port, however, to get the USB to work. I haven't quite figured it out yet.Java
Download Java 1.7 from Oracle. I'm not sure if you're required to get the 32bit version or if the 64bit is fine.RLVibe Client
Download and uncompress RLVibe-1.02.zip and double-click on the client jar file.Privacy
Privacy is important to me. So is anonymity for those who feel they need it. No information about you is collected or shared with RLVibe. RLVibe 1.02 communicates only between SL and your computer. I've made the source code for the client available to all so they can be sure there's no monkey-business going on.
Developers and Builders
RLVibe is a set of scripts that go into a MLPv2 build for furniture and directly into wearable attachments. Contact me if you're interested in adding RLVibe to your creations.
Source code is available on request...soon to be up on bitbucket.
